Murdair Mhám Trasna receives prestigious international History prize at Celtic Media Festival

Murdair Mhám Trasna (The Mám Trasna Murders) wins the coveted Torc for Best History Programme at Celtic Media Festival.

ROSG are thrilled and honoured with the win. We are especially proud of this production, this Gaeltacht story, with its national and international dimensions, has resonated with audiences at home and abroad.  The docu-drama is a unique mix of murder mystery, courtroom drama and political intrigue.  We are also extremely proud that this production has contributed to the campaign to clear Myles Joyces name as the president granted a posthumous pardon to Myles last month.

Murdair Mhám Trasna, a feature length film commissioned by TG4 and co-funded by the BAI, tells the story of the miscarriage of justice which ensued, due to perjury and bribery, after the brutal murder of five members of the same family in Mám Trasna in the West of Ireland in 1882, which eventually contributed to the fall of a British government.

Adapted from the book Éagóir by Seán Ó Cuirreáin, Murdair Mhám Trasna is directed by Colm Bairéad, produced by Ciarán Ó Cofaigh for ROSG with DOP Colm Hogan, editor Conall de Cléir and Designer Conor Dennison.

TG4 Director General Alan Esslemont says “I congratulate all the production team for their wonderful work” also saying that “this contributes to the recognition of this program around the globe and we are very happy with the prize from our Celtic media counterparts. "

Murdair Mhám Trasna is available to watch on the TG4 player.
